Our site/publication is called Industrie and we spelled it with an “ie” on purpose – it’s the French way of spelling Industry and was once defined to us as an artisan who works with their hands to create things of beauty and substance. So tell us, how do you define beauty and substance?
It is all about being natural. When I do color, I try to do what nature would do naturally. I spend a lot of time looking at natural hair color—it’s my obsession; how it naturally grows out, how it naturally comes to be. Like when people don’t color their hair, they have natural highlights, natural redheads, natural brunettes, and how the sun would naturally highlight hair.
What other creative outlets do you explore/practice?
I absolutely love to knit and cook! I also want to learn to quilt. Maybe I will take that up this summer.
What’s your personal motto/favorite quote?
Less is more, for everything in life, but especially hair and beauty. You can always add more, it’s hard to back out of things once they are done or in the process.
Who or what inspires you to be your best self every day?
The fact that as a colorist, I have the ability to completely change people’s lives every single day.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
The best advice I’ve ever received was from Jennifer Lopez who told me, “Always use cream blush, it makes you look more youthful.” She was right!
What’s your hidden talent?
My employees will disagree with me for saying this, but singing. In the salon, I’m famous for my belting out a Broadway tune or two! I love the musical Gypsy. I love all musicals and films from the golden era to the ‘80s and all of the hit songs from each. I love my contemporary music too, but my go-to’s are usually Broadway tunes.
