He’s funny, fabulous and a creative force to be reckoned with. We’re happy to call this talented Shear Genius a friend.
Who: Charlie Price
What: Platform Artist Provocateur and Hair Educator
Where: Denver, Colorado
Our site/publication is called Industrie and we spelled it with an “ie” on purpose – it’s the French way of spelling Industry and was once defined as an artisan who works with their hands to create things of beauty and substance. So tell us, how do you define beauty and substance?
Beauty is something that makes your heart sing, not just your eyes. Something that has substance has meaning and elicits respect.
What other creative outlets do you explore/practice?
I love to sketch, I am a frustrated fashion stylist and interior designer. And I LOVE putting together fashion shows and photo shoots.
What’s your personal motto/favorite quote?
“Be authentic and tell it like it fucking is.” ~ Me
When have you felt the most vulnerable in your career?
When I won NAHA Hairstylist of the Year the second time. Coming off Shear Genius I had my share of haters, I had to prove that I wasn’t all hype. Even though I had won Hairstylist of the Year before, some people still saw me as a prima donna and lightweight rather than a talent.
What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?
Horst [Rechelbacher] always said that if you do what you love the money will follow. It has been true, but I would like a lot more money!
What is your theme song in life?
My theme song is “Like a Prayer” by MADONNA. That song is everything.
