Our site/publication is called Industrie and we spelled it with an “ie” on purpose – it’s the French way of spelling Industry and was once defined to us as an artisan who works with their hands to create things of beauty and substance. So tell us, how do you define beauty and substance?

By being genuinely you! Beauty can be defined as fake, and I agree and disagree with that term.  I find that substance is, if you are genuine about your approach to beauty, inside and out and how you give beauty to the world. Not your beauty, but how you treat others, is beauty and substance to me.

What other creative outlets besides do you explore/practice?

I shoot photography; mostly my collections, I also prefer to do all my post production. I’m also a DJ and have been for about 13 years. Three years ago I started producing music (I have 4 tracks on beatport.com) and I go by the artist name of J.E.T.

So I guess you could say I dabble in the arts. I feel it’s all been a natural progression for what I originally started with (HAIR!).  Music and visuals help me be creative with my hair art.

What’s your personal motto/favorite quote?

“You were born and original, don’t die a copy.” ~ John Mason

When have you felt the most vulnerable in your career?

When I haven’t practiced a look or technique and I’m expected to perform or wing it.

What’s the best advice you’ve ever received?

It came from Robert Lobetta. He said this the night of the NAHA ceremony I was nominated for: “Plan for the worst, but hope for the best!”
